games
The games that have consumed countless hours of my life. What's your favorite game? Send me an email.
Sid Meier's Civilization II
Civ II was the game that hooked me into the turn based strategy genre. I've since played Civ III and it's many expansion packs, but there's nothing like Civ II with it's simple graphics and addictive game play. I'll just play one more turn...
Unreal Tournament 2004
Even though Epic recently released Unreal Tournament 3 with it's shiny new graphics and faster game play, UT 2004 will always have a place in my heart (I mean hard drive). I remember it was because of a discussion about UT 2004 over the lunch table in high school that some friends and I started holding LAN parties (yes it's pretty geeky). And of course it was UT 2004 that we were playing, with a little Counter Strike thrown in for fun.
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
I started playing the Elder Scrolls series when it was Elder Scrolls: Morrowind. So when I first heard about Elder Scrolls Oblivion I was pretty excited. I finally bought the game when it came and was blown away by the graphics and story. Unfortunately, I have yet to finish the game because about the same time I started playing my friends introduced me to World of Warcraft (which I have since made a full recovery and no longer play).
Sim Tower
I was already a fan of Will Wright's simulation genre of video games when I first played Sim Tower. Even though Sim Tower isn't a creation of Wright's, it still had all of the addictive elements of total control over a sim. This game was installed in the technology labs in middle school (not really sure why), so many an hour were spent playing this game instead of working on various engineering or electronics assignments.
Raptor: Call of Shadows
Rapter was the first video game I ever played on a computer. I fondly remember spending countless hours playing the demo version of this game in the days of MS-DOS and Windows 95. My dad finally bought me the full version of the game for my birthday one year, and the best part is it came on 15 floppy discs.
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic
As all Star Wars fans know, the ultimate kind of game is a game that allows you to play your very own character in the Star Wars universe. This was my first run in with the RPG genre of games, and I found it gives you a taste of something that no other style of gaming provides. While I played KOTOR 2, the story line was no where near as good as the first.
Bioshock
I've always been a big fan of FPS, but aside from maybe Half-Life 2, I've never experienced an FPS that has such a dark and realistic story line and environment. The game play, graphics, and musical score of Bioshock are so immersive that it actually feels like your in a deserted city under the ocean. You even hear the constant drip drip of water that is the ocean slowly reclaiming the city.
Half-Life Two
I've saved the best for last. Half-Life 2 makes the FPS genre what it is. Valve clearly has a vision to make the Half-Life series the role model for all other FPS games. They have the graphics, the physics, the gameplay, and most importantly, the story.
